World Blood Donation Day is celebrated every year on June 14 to thank blood donors for saving the lives of patients suffering from life-threatening conditions. This day was initially observed in 2004 by the World Health Organization (WHO) to appreciate the blood donors and to raise awareness on the need for regular blood and its product donations. History of World Blood Donation Day World Blood Donation Day was initially celebrated on 14th June 2004 on the occasion of birth anniversary of Karl Landsteinerâs, a renowned physician and biologist who discovered ABO blood groups.
